Become an AHA/ASA Professional Member - Membership status must be active and current by Sept. 30 to qualify for the reduced registration rates.

If you register and then become a member, or upgrade to a different membership level, we will not refund the difference in the registration fees.

We offer a wide range of hotels with rates for every budget.  All the official hotels are within walking distance or will have AHA shuttle service to the convention center.

After registering, you will be automatically directed to the official Web site for AHA hotels.  Please note that you must register before you will be able to book one of the official AHA hotels. If you prefer to make your reservation over the phone, please have your registration information handy for verification. Agents are available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., at (877) 468-3548 or (212) 532-1660.

Requirements for Discounted Rates

  • Student/Trainee – Must be full-time medical, nursing or graduate student, or full-time fellow (postdoctoral/clinical research) or house officer enrolled in a training program.  Badge reads “Student/Trainee.”
  • Technician – Must be full-time laboratory technician, research technician or cardiovascular technologist.  Badge reads “Technician.”
  • Nurse, Paramedic or EMT – Must be Premium or General Professional Member of the AHA/ASA, and full-time practicing licensed and/or certified nurse, paramedic or EMT.  Badge reads “Nurse/Nurse Practitioner” or “EMT/Paramedic,” respectively.
    Note: Nonmember nurses, paramedics or EMT’s who join at the Early Career level are not eligible for the discounted rates.
  • Early Career Member – Category is restricted to investigators, clinicians or health professionals who have completed training within the last five years.  Also applies to physicians or scientists in their first five years after faculty appointment.  Note: Discounted rates are only available to members in this category.
  • Premium Emeritus – Category is limited to professional members 65 years or older who have requested and received emeritus status from the association before registering.
  • If you join or renew at the General Professional level, you do not receive the discounted registration fee benefit.  A special discounted registration fee is offered only to nurses, EMT’s or paramedics who join at this level.
  • Guest badge permits access to the Exhibit Hall only.  If a guest also plans to attend sessions each day, then he/she must register separately as a professional attendee. Guest Policy:  Must be a spouse or adult family member not in and industry-related position where, otherwise, registration would be required.  Guests get access to the Exhibit Hall only.

Verification Information

The following must provide verification when registering to receive a discounted registration rate:

  • Nonmember Technicians
  • Nonmember Students and Trainees

Online registrants receive verification instructions during the registration process.

Faxed or mailed forms must be accompanied by verification; therefore, phone registration cannot be accepted. 

One of the following must be submitted with the form:

  • Current license or certificate
  • Student ID
  • Letter written on official letterhead and signed by a department head, mentor or supervisor

If you join at a different level and/or register in a different category and then later submit verification, the association will not refund the difference. 

General Event Policies

  • Guest Policy - A guest must be a spouse or family member not in an industry-related position where, otherwise, registration would be required.  Guests get access to the Exhibits only.  Guest badges will be mailed.
  • All guests who register on site must present a government-issued photo ID and be accompanied by the conference registrant before receiving a badge on site.
  • Lost Badges – A $20 processing fee will be assessed on site for all badge reprint requests – no exceptions.  
  • No children under 18 years old will be allowed to attend Scientific Sessions 2009 or enter the Exhibit Hall.
  • You can make changes or update your registration by using the online Registration Resource Center or by contacting Convention Data Services (CDS) Customer Service:

  • No refunds will be issued on site.
  • On-site registration substitutions are not allowed.

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Refunds less a $50 processing fee will be granted only to written requests received by CDS by Oct. 16, 2009.  Council and dinner tickets as well as any other service charges are not refundable or transferrable. No refunds will be granted after Oct. 16, 2009, nor will they be granted for no-shows after the conference.

Important:  If you must cancel your registration, you cannot transfer it or substitute another name for your name. A name change is considered a cancellation. 

Travel Groups (If you are requesting a VISA letter, information will be available the week of Sept. 28.)
